Title: Antivirin
Additional Names: AV
Literature References: A virus inhibitory factor produced by various cells including HeLa-S3, Hep. no. 2, KB, FL, L, G2V, Chang's liver cells, human embryo lung, mouse embryo fibroblast, chick embryo fibroblast: Y. Seto, S. Toyoshima, Progr. Antimicrob. Anticancer Chemother., Proc. 6th Int. Congr. Chemother. vol. I (Univ. Park Press, Baltimore, 1970) pp 108-113. The antiviral spectrum of this inhibitor is wide, and unlike interferon, its activity is stable after proteolytic enzyme treatment and heating. AV is produced in the absence of interferon inducers and does not possess such strict host specificity as interferon. It exerts its effects at any early stage of virus replication. The active part of AV is of smaller molecular size than interferon. Nature and mechanism of action: Toyoshima et al., Interferon, Proc. Symp. 1969, Y. Nagano, Ed. (Igaku Shoin, Ltd., Tokyo, 1970) pp 185-193.
